This coming Sunday I've been asked
To write a poem you see
I've done a little of this before
But it won't come easy for me.
Because this is a poem about how I feel
After some terrible pain.
Maybe by writing about it
Some insight I will gain.
With the loss I sustained
After forty eight years,
Is an aching loneliness
That can bring on tears.
I may laugh and joke
When out with friends,
But all too soon
The evening ends.
And home I go to an empty shell
Of a house I used to like so well,
But all too soon
The evening ends.
And home I go to an empty shell
Of a house I used to like so well,
And the loneliness returns anew
That aching pain just grew and grew.
So I'm trying to reinvent myselft
Take joy in family and friends so dear
And gradually things will get better
Year after year after year.
